About the Author
Jerry Fochler, Bachelor of Forest Science, owned and operated Inroads Mountain Sports Ltd, a guiding and outdoor training company, for 35 years. His client list included the University of Alberta, Grant MacEwan University, high schools, the Canadian Military, the Alberta Research Council, the Metis Nation of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta Community Services. Inroads provided training at an international level with many clients coming from overseas. Jerry spent time as both Vice President and Training Officer for Hinton Search and Rescue. He was the northern Alberta coordinator for Alberta / B.C. Cave Rescue. He volunteered for two winters for the University of California Riverside researching climate change and biodiversity. Now in semi-retirement, Jerry was certified as a canoe instructor, map compass and GPS instructor, wilderness first aid instructor trainer, and rope rescue team leader. He also provided training in survival, plant identification, orienteering and geo-caching. Jerry has written several books including this latest one: Plants of the North Westside.
